Fertility is a multifaceted concept that encompasses not only tangible meanings such as material wealth and abundance, but also intangible values like health, lineage continuity, spiritual well?being, and divine grace. In this context, the phenomenon of fertility has been understood across various belief systems in relation to the sacred. This study examines how the concept of fertility was symbolized in the religious traditions that developed in the Near East—specifically among the Sumerians, Ancient Egyptians, Judaism, and Christianity—by analyzing the deities, goddesses, rituals, agricultural symbols, and iconographic elements associated with fertility through a descriptive approach. The aim of the research is not merely to identify fertility symbols, but also to elucidate their religious, social, and cultural functions within their respective belief systems and to convey how individuals and communities establish their relationship with the sacred. To this end, religious texts, mythological narratives, and ritual practices are examined to reveal the ways in which fertility was represented symbolically and the roles these symbols played. A descriptive methodology from the field of religious history is adopted, utilizing source studies, symbol analyses, and archaeological evidence for evaluation. In conclusion, fertility symbols are found not only to serve a material and cultural function, but also to shape personal modes of relating to the sacred, communal roles, and religious practices as integral symbolic structures.
