Stephen Blois is one of the essential counts from France who participated in the First Crusade. He contributed significantly to the Crusader army during the sieges of Nicea and Antakya in the First Crusade. His intimate relations with the Byzantine Emperor and his despairing abandonment with the siege of Antioch during the siege of Antioch have been brought to the fore. He attracted attention with the courage he showed during the transfer of the Crusader army from Anatolia to Syrian territory. However, unlike the other Crusader counts, he had good relations with the Byzantine Emperor. He abandoned the siege during the siege of Antakya by using his illness as an excuse, so he was accused of treason among the Crusaders and in his country, France. He participated in the Crusade action again in 1101 to dispel these treason rumors and contribute to the Crusaders. During the Crusade of 1101, which he rejoined with the encouragement of his wife Adele after being accused of treason, he fought bravely against the Muslims in Anatolia and Palestine. He cleared his name by losing his life during the war with Muslims in Ramla. This article discusses the courage shown by Stephen, Duke of Blois, in the First Crusade and the act of treason for which he was accused of escaping from the Crusader army during the siege of Antioch.
