Dhikr in Üft?de's D?v?n

Abstract

Mehmed Muhyiddin Üft?de Efendi is a significant mystic poet and Sufi who lived in Bursa during the 16th century. Raised in a Sufistic environment from an early age, Üft?de is known as the spiritual guide of the Celvetiyye tariqat. Much like almost every Sufi, Üft?de Efendi engaged with poetry and had a d?v?n (collection of poems) comprising around sixty odes. He penned his poems in an ascetic style, utilizing simple and understandable Turkish, where he discussed the transience of worldly life, inviting people to worship and obey Allah. Üft?de accorded special importance to dhikr (remembrance of Allah) while calling people to worship. He regarded dhikr as a guide that brings individuals closer to Allah's pleasure and beauty. Consistently advising those who wish to progress in spiritual path (sayr u sul?k) and aspire to reach Allah to engage in dhikr, Üft?de emphasizes that dhikr should not only resonate on the tongue but also affect the heart. Upon examining the poems in Üft?de’s d?v?n, it is apparent that the subject of dhikr holds a significant place. In some instances, Üft?de addresses dhikr in the entirety of a poem, while in others, he touches upon it in certain verses. This study has examined the poems related to dhikr in Üft?de's d?v?n and analyzed Üft?de’s perspective on dhikr.

Mehmed Muhyiddin Üftâde Efendi 16. yüzyılda Bursa’da yaşamış önemli bir irfan şairi ve mutasavvıftır. Küçüklüğünden itibaren tasavvufî bir çevrede yetişen Üftâde, Celvetiyye tarikatının pîri olarak bilinmektedir. Hemen her mutasavvıf gibi şiirle iştigal eden Üftâde Efendi, içerisinde altmış civarında manzume bulunan bir divana sahiptir. Şiirlerini zâhidâne bir üslupla, sade ve anlaşılır bir Türkçeyle kaleme alan Üftâde, şiirlerinde dünyanın fanîliğinden bahsetmiş, insanları Allah’a ibadete ve itaate davet etmiştir. Üftâde, Allah’a ibadete davet ederken zikre ayrı bir önem atfetmiştir. O, zikri insanı Allah’ın rızasına ve cemâline kavuşturan bir rehber olarak görmektedir. Seyr ü sülûkta ilerlemek isteyen ve Allah’a vasıl olmak isteyenlere daima zikri tavsiye eden Üftâde, zikrin sadece dilde kalmayıp kalbe de tesir etmesi gerektiğini öğütlemektedir. Üftâde divanında bulunan şiirler incelendiğinde zikir konusunun önemli bir yere sahip olduğu görülmektedir. Üftâde bazen şiirin tamamında, bazense belli beyitlerde zikre temas etmektedir. Bu çalışmada Üftâde divanında yer alan zikirle ilgili şiirler incelenmiş ve Üftâde’nin zikre olan bakışı ele alınmıştır.
