Science is a form of inquiry that focuses on understanding human, nature and the universe. Scientists want to describe, explain, predict and interfere. This is forced them to use of more effective methods to generate new knowledge. Accordingly, the history of the development of the scientific method has dealt with changes in scientific research procedure and scientific method has been at the center of important debates throughout the history of science. As is generally accepted, one of the thinkers who pioneered these debates is Aristotle, who is considered to be the founder of the discipline of logic, working in different fields such as biology, ethics, metaphysics, rhetoric, physics, poetry, epistemology, politics, psychology and zoology. Aristotle began by investigating the possibility of apodeictic (certain, true and necessary) knowledge and argued that this could only be achieved through deduction. Although Aristotle focused his main attention on deductive reasoning, he did not ignore induction. Induction is the way to be used in the process of obtaining initial principles. However, for Aristotle, although it is induction that gives knowledge of the universal, it is deduction that enables the production of scientific knowledge. On the axis of this information, in this article, Aristotle’s views on deduction and induction will be evaluated in a concise manner.
