The Ilkhanate period witnessed a significant revival in science and culture approximately half a century after the destructive process initiated by the invasions of Genghis Khan. During this time, the contributions of prominent physicians such as Nasir al-Din Tusi and Rashid al-Din Fazlullah al-Hamadhani, particularly in the field of medicine, highlighted the scientific richness of the era. Tusi, one of the prominent scholars of this period, made a significant impact on medical practice with his profound knowledge in mathematics and astronomy, performing notable surgical interventions. His work, “Tansuh-nama-yi Ilkhani” provides valuable insights into the history of medicine, enriching the body of knowledge in this field. On the other hand, Rashid al-Din Fazlullah, a statesman, physician, scholar, and historian of the Ilkhanate, conducted extensive studies across various disciplines such as medicine, history, and philosophy. His works, including “Asar-i Ahya” and “Sewanih al-Afkar al-Rashidi”, contributed to the advancement of both medical practices and the organization of the healthcare system. The establishment of hospitals (dârüşşifâ) and the patronage of scholars significantly contributed to the education and practice of medicine. The translation activities undertaken during the Ilkhanate period, along with the synthesis of medical knowledge from various cultures, facilitated the attainment of a universal character for Islamic medicine.
