This study was conducted to determine the detailed soil survey maps and soil classes of the Lower Engiz sub-basin of Ondokuzmayıs District in Samsun Province. The study area is located at coordinates 4590000-4598000 N, 250000-258000 E (WGS-84, Zone37, UTMm). The area covered by the study conducted in July 2021 is 4.758 hectares. The average annual temperature is 13.8°C and the total annual precipitation is 717.5 mm. Topography, geology and geomorphic maps of the area and field observations were analyzed and 6 soil profiles were opened in the study area. The results obtained from the analyzes and field observations were evaluated and 6 different soil series were defined. According to the Soil Taxonomy, the series Düzköy, Dağköy, Çepinler, Esenyer, Ballıca, and Yukarıengiz are classified as Vertic Dystrustept, Vertic Haplustepts, Lithic Orthent, Lithic Orthent, Typic Ustifluvents, and Calcic Hapluster, respectively. However, according to the FAO/WRB classification, they are identified as Dystric Vertic Cambisol, Colluvic Vertic Cambisol, Lithic Leptosol, Lithic Leptosol, Clayic Fulvisol, and Calcic Vertisol, respectively. In the study area, Ballıca series has the highest area with 24.54% and Esenyer series has the lowest area with 1.45%. The digital soil database obtained from the study area can be used as a basis for projects to be carried out for sustainable land use and protection of natural resources.
