The article examines how the na‘t tradition—poetic expressions of love and devotion toward the Prophet Muhammad in Turkish literature—has been sustained and transformed in modern poetry through an analysis of Cemal Safi’s poems “Na‘t-ı Şerif/Senin Üstüne” and “Na‘t/Efendim.” The main objective of the study is to explore how classical na‘t aesthetics have been integrated into contemporary poetic sensibilities and what literary innovations this synthesis has produced. In this context, the study employs a qualitative methodology, utilizing textual analysis and thematic interpretation techniques. The initial phase presents a theoretical overview of the historical development, function, and artistic context of the na‘t genre in Turkish literature. Subsequently, selected poems by Cemal Safi are analyzed in terms of their themes, language, and stylistic features. The analysis reveals that while Safi maintains the structural framework of traditional na‘t poetry, he introduces a unique discourse enriched with modern sensibilities in terms of content and language. It is observed that the poet frequently employs rhetorical devices such as interrogation and apostrophe to express the Prophet Muhammad’s absolute transcendence, his role as intercessor, his prophetic miracles, and his spiritual beauty in a style harmonious with both contemporary Turkish and the folk poetic tradition. Furthermore, by portraying scenes from the Prophet’s life along with his moral and metaphysical attributes, Safi aims to evoke feelings of faith, gratitude, love, and hope in the reader. In this regard, Safi both participates in the traditional chain of na‘t poetry and contributes to its contemporary revitalization.
