The Negative Potential of Existence According to Aynulkudat Hamadani Satan

Abstract

The subject of this article is Satan according to Aynülkudat Hamadani, one of the Sûfî figures who left their mark on the history of Islamic thought. The Satan to be discussed here is not an entity that the external dimension of religion sees as an evil force and struggles with, but rather an entity that the spiritual and mystical dimensions of religion accept as a monotheistic and God-loving character. In other words, this study does not address the devil of sharia but the devil of transcendental Sûfîsm, and is actually structured on the affirmation and defense of Satan. This study was prepared in light of Hamadani’s Arabic and Persian works. The aim of the study is to determine the place and role of Satan in the divine program, evaluate it within the scope of the unity of existence, include it in the plan of creation envisaged by divine providence, and thus attribute the potential source of evil to the program of divine wisdom. In order to achieve the purpose of the study, an explanatory, descriptive, and interpretative method was followed in light of religious language and symbolism. As a result of the study, it was seen that both good and evil are manifestations of the names and attributes of Allah, and in this context, while the prophets and their followers are manifestations of the beautiful attributes of Allah, the devil and his followers are manifestations of the glorious attributes of Allah. It was concluded that the unity of the two inevitable dualistic dimensions of existence, positive and negative, as required by the divine providence standing in the background of the apparent narratives of religion, necessitates the need for the devil, who is the source of the potential for evil, just as prophethood is the source of the potential for good.

Bu makalenin konusu, İslam düşünce tarihine iz bırakmış sûfî şahsiyetlerden biri olan Aynülkudat Hemedânî’ye göre Şeytan’dır. Burada ele alınacak şeytan, dinin zahirî boyutunun kötücül bir güç olarak gördüğü ve onunla mücadele ettiği bir varlık değil, dinin bâtınî ve manevi boyutunu oluşturan irfânî ve tasavvufî boyutunun muvahhit ve Allah’a âşık bir karakter olarak kabul ettiği bir varlık olarak incelenmiştir. Diğer bir ifadeyle bu çalışma, şeriatın şeytanını değil aksine tasavvufun şeytanını ele almış ve aslında şeytanın olumlanması ve savunması üzerine kurgulanmıştır. Bu çalışma Hemedânî’nin Arapça ve Farsça eserleri ışığında hazırlanmıştır. Çalışmanın amacı, şeytanın ilahi program içerisindeki yerini ve rolünü tespit etmek, varlığın birliği kapsamında değerlendirmek, ilahi takdirin öngördüğü yaradılış planına dâhil etmek ve böylece kötülüğün potansiyel kaynağını da ilahi bilgelik programına atfetmektir. Çalışmanın amacına ulaşması için din dili ve sembolizm ışığında açıklayıcı, betimleyici ve yorumlayıcı bir metot takip edilmiştir. Çalışmanın sonucunda, hem iyilik hem de kötülüğün Allah’ın isim ve sıfatlarının birer tezahürü oldukları ve bu bağlamda peygamberler ve takipçileri Allah’ın cemali sıfatlarının tezahürleri iken şeytan ve takipçilerinin de Allah’ın celali sıfatlarının tezahürleri oldukları görülmüştür. Dinin zahirî anlatılarının arka planında duran ilahi takdir gereği, pozitif ve negatif olmak üzere varlığın kaçınılmaz iki düalist boyutunun birliği tıpkı iyilik potansiyeline kaynaklık eden nübüvvet gibi kötülük potansiyelin kaynaklık eden şeytana olan ihtiyacı da zorunlu kıldığı sonucuna varılmıştır.
