(Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) during the 2022–2023 season. The study was laid out according to a completely randomized factorial design with five replications, including areas with and without B. choshinensis application. Sampling was carried out every 7 days until the harvest period. Predator insect species C. carnea, C. septempunctata and Sunn pest (E. integriceps) found in wheat plots were determined using the visual counting method. According to the results, B. choshinensis treatment boosted beneficial insect population and restriced E. integriceps over control plants. E. integriceps population reduced up to 75%, 100%, 66% and 92% compared to control at the 1st., 2nd., 3rd. and 4th. observation times, respectively. In addition, foliar B. choshinensis treatment reduced E. integriceps population by 6.3-fold (from 0.63 to 0.10) over control plots. Number of beneficial insects per plot were determined as 1.35 and 6.75 at control and PGPB treatmen, respectively, therby increasing by 5-fold over control. In conclusion, it is thought that B. choshinensis can be an alternative bio-insecticide that can be used to control the harmful insect population and to encourage the beneficial insect population. In addition, new researches are needed to understand the mechanisms by which B. choshinensis treatment suppresses E. integriceps populations while attracting beneficial insect communities. © African Association of Insect Scientists 2025.Öğe Determination of harmful and beneficial predator insect species and the distribution and density of Eurygaster integriceps Puton (Hemiptera: Scutelleridae) in wheat-cultivated areas of Siirt province(2023) Dilmen, Halil; Kaplan, Cevdet; Özgökçe, Mehmet Salih; Çiftçi, Mustafa Cemal; Dilmen, Meryem Özer; Pala, Fırat; Kaplan, MehmetWheat is nowadays the most important source of food on earth. Furthermore, Chrysobothris affinis (Fabricius, 1794) detected in this study is the first record for the pomegranate fauna of Turkey.Öğe Determination of the effect of yellow sticky traps on Agonoscena pistaciae (Hemiptera: Psyllidae) population density in pistachio orchards in Siirt, Turkiye(Inst Investigaciones Agropecuarias - Inia, 2024) Dilmen, Halil; Ozgokce, Mehmet Salih; Kaplan, CevdetAgonoscena pistaciae (Hemiptera: Psyllidae) is a significant pest in pistachio ( Pistacia vera L.) orchards in T & uuml;rkiye. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of yellow sticky traps as an alternative method for controlling A. pistaciae populations in pistachio orchards. Conducted in late September and early October of 2021 and 2022, during peak pest activity, the experiment was carried out in Siirt, with three replicates following a randomized block design. Five traps were hung on all sides of each tree for sampling. Repeated measures ANOVA (repeated measures; general linear model) was used to observe changes over time. The results indicated that yellow sticky traps were highly effective in mass trapping adults, capturing an average maximum of 12 332.67 adults per trap. A significant decrease in the number of nymphs and eggs on the leaves was observed in the yellow sticky trap-treated trees compared to the control plots by mid-October (P < 0.05). Specifically, the average number of nymphs per composite leaf dropped from 24.95 to 11.23 in 2021, and from 145.18 to 27.29 in 2022. Similarly, the average number of eggs per composite leaf decreased from 61.18 to 2.29 in 2021, and from 73.56 to 3.64 in 2022. These findings suggest that yellow sticky traps can significantly reduce psyllid populations in pistachio orchards over the long term and can be an effective control method when used early in the vegetative period for low- to medium-sized psyllid populations.Öğe Diversity and Distribution of Coccinellidae Species in the Karacadağ Region of Türkiye(2025) Kaçar, Zeynep; Dilmen, HalilThis study was conducted to determine and examine species of the Coccinellidae family in the Karacadağ region (Diyarbakır-Şanlıurfa), Türkiye. This study aims to identify mosquito specimens collected from Siirt city center and six different districts using morphological and molecular methods. A 658 bp fragment of the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (COI) gene region was used for molecular diagnosis. The findings revealed four mosquito species: Culex theileri Theobald, 1903, Culex mimeticus Noè, 1899, Culex quinquefasciatus Say, 1823, and Anopheles superpictus Grassi, 1899. Mitochondrial gene PCR products were sequenced, and the sequences were uploaded to the NCBI database for public access. Phylogenetic analysis was conducted using these sequences to investigate the genetic distances and evolutionary relationships among the mosquito species. In the phylogenetic analysis, Chironomus kiiensis was used as an outgroup. The analysis revealed that C. quinquefasciatus and A. superpictus were had the highest genetic distance (0.16), while the closest genetic distance was observed between C. quinquefasciatus and C. theileri (0.06). This study is presented as a preliminary investigation into the genetic diversity, evolutionary relationships, and population dynamics of mosquito species in Siirt Province. Further studies with a larger sample size and additional sequences are needed to establish more comprehensive phylogenetic relationships. The molecular findings contribute significantly to the systematic and ecological studies of mosquitoes.Öğe Efficacy of Trap Types on the Attractiveness of Kermania pistaciella Amsel, 1964 (Lepidoptera: Tineidae)(2025) Dilmen, Halil; Kaplan, CevdetKermania pistaciella Amsel. (Lepidoptera: Tineidae) is a critical pest in pistachio cultivation, leading to significant yield loss and quality degradation. This study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of Delta, Funnel, and Pherecon trap types in attracting adult K. pistaciella. Statistical analyses were performed using ANOVA to assess the mean differences between the trap types. The results showed that the Delta trap had a significantly higher capture rate than the other two traps. The average number of adults caught by the Delta, Funnel, and Pherecon traps were 579.67, 403.67, and 380.00, respectively. The Delta trap peaked at an average of 600 adults captured at the end of April and early May, while the Funnel and Pherecon traps showed lower capture rates during this period. From May 23 to June 8, 2022, capture rates decreased across all traps. The Delta trap captured an average of 55.77 more adults than the Funnel trap and 46.92 more than the Pherecon trap, with these differences being statistically significant (p<0.01). However, no significant difference was observed between the Funnel and Pherecon traps (p > 0.05). Additionally, the interaction between trap types and time factors was also found to be significant (p<0.05).Öğe Identification of the Parasitoid Wasp Dinocampus coccinellae (Schrank) (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) in Pistachio Orchards Using DNA Barcoding(2025) Dilmen, HalilIdentification of Dinocampus coccinellae (Schrank) (Hymenoptera: Braconidae), a parasitoid of various species within the Coccinellidae family, is essential for the development of effective biological control strategies in pistachio orchards. The phytochemical content of the essential oils was determined by GC-MS. Furthermore, molecular docking analyses were performed to theoretically investigate the inhibitory properties of the dominant compounds against the detoxification enzymes glutathione S-transferase (GST) and cytochrome P450. In the GC-MS analysis, the dominant components were identified as follows: O. onites (60.51% carvacrol, 9.73% linalool, and 7.53% cis-cymene); L. angustifolia (25.44% linalyl acetate, 23.47% linalool, and 7.37% cis-cymene); and F. vulgare (49.41% anethol, 14.62% p-anisaldehyde, and 9.35% estragol). As a result of molecular docking, carvacrol showed the strongest binding affinity to both enzymes, surpassing the reference inhibitors metronidazole and coniferil ferulate, achieving docking scores of -5.40 kcal/mol and -5.70 kcal/mol, respectively. Visualization of molecular interactions revealed strong hydrogen bonds and hydrophobic contacts between carvacrol and the enzyme active sites. Biological analyses confirmed that carvacrol-rich O. onites EOs caused significantly higher mortality rates in A. pistaciae larvae compared to other applications and controls. These results demonstrate that carvacrol derived from O. onites is a promising natural insecticide targeting detoxification enzymes in pests and offering a sustainable alternative to synthetic pesticides.Öğe Molecular Characterization of Agonoscena pistaciae Burckhardt and Lauterer (Hemiptera Psyllidae) Populations Spreading in Southeast Anatolia(Springer, 2022) Dilmen, Halil; Ozgokce, Mehmet Salih; Inal, BehcetThis study aims to explain the genetic kinship relationships among populations of the psyllid species collected from several pistachio orchards in Turkey. Agonoscena pistaciae (Burckhardt and Lauterer) (Hemiptera, Psyllidae) is one of the most important pests of pistachio trees (Pistacia vera L.). This species, which continues its biological periods on pistachio trees, has been rapidly spreading in some parts of the world. Although pistachio psyllid leads to significant yield losses in pistachio trees in Gaziantep and Adiyaman in Turkey, in Siirt province such infestation has historically been very rare. However, the population density has significantly increased in Siirt province and districts in recent years. In this study, an internal transcribed spacer (ITS) DNA barcode identifier was used to determine whether these new outbreaks are a simple spread or the evolution of a new A. pistaciae biotype. In this context, by obtaining a 716-bp long ITS gene region by the polymerase chain reaction process, the genetic kinship relationships among populations of A. pistaciae in Gaziantep, Adiyaman, and Siirt provinces, which have significant potential in pistachio production, were revealed. When the data obtained were examined, no genetic differences could be detected among the population members of A. pistaciae spreading in Siirt, Gaziantep, and Adiyaman provinces. It was determined that A. pistaciae living in these regions are the same species. In addition, in the study the Wolbachia sp. type using the 16S ribosomal RNA gene region was determined.Öğe Nar (Punica granatum L.) Üreticilerinin Tarımsal Uygulamalarının Genel Değerlendirilmesi: Türkiye, Siirt İli Örneği(2022) Dilmen, Halil; Kaplan, Cevdet; Çiftçi, Mustafa Cemal; Çakmak, SunaBu çalışma, 2018 ve 2019 yılları arasında Siirt ilinde Zivzik narı yetiştiriciliği yapan üreticilerin mevcut durumu, bazı tarım uygulamalarına yaklaşımları, üretim ve pazarlama aşamasında karşılaştıkları sorunların belirlenmesi amacıyla yapılmıştır. Despite repeated pesticide applications, psyllid population density and the associated damage continue to persist in many orchards. This situation suggests the possible development of resistance to commonly used pesticides. In this study, resistance to the most widely used pesticide active ingredient in the region, spirotetramat, was investigated at both phenotypic and molecular levels. Psyllid populations were collected from pistachio orchards with a documented history of pesticide application and from orchards with no prior pesticide use. Under laboratory conditions, psyllids were reared on pistachio seedlings, and bioassays were conducted using six concentrations of spirotetramat (0, 25, 50, 75, 100, and 150 mg/L). Dose-dependent increases in mortality were observed, with the highest mortality recorded at the highest concentration. Mortality rates were consistently higher in psyllid populations collected from unsprayed orchards compared to those from sprayed orchards. LC50 and LC90 values were notably higher in populations from previously sprayed locations, indicating reduced susceptibility to spirotetramat. Molecular analyses were performed on surviving nymphs following bioassays. Expression levels of the CYP307a1 gene were lower than those of mir-2b-3p, mir-14b-5p, and mir-2756-5p in populations from unsprayed orchards. In contrast, CYP9f2 and the miRNAs mir-2b-3p, mir-14b-5p, mir-316-5p, and mir-2756-5p exhibited variable expression patterns across all populations. These findings suggest that miRNAs and P450 genes may play a role in the molecular mechanisms underlying spirotetramat resistance in A. pistaciae populations. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2026.Öğe The efficacy of Serratia nematodiphila and Neem Azal T/S on Macrosiphum rosae: new approaches in biological control(2024) Dilmen, Halil; Şanver, Utku; Kaplan, Mehmet; Doğaç, MerveThe rose aphid, Macrosiphum rosae (L.) (Hemiptera: Aphididae), is one of the most common pests of rose plants. This study evaluated the effects of four different doses of Neem Azal-T/S, containing the active ingredient Azadirachtin A, and a dose of Serratia nematodiphila (1x108 cfu/ml) on M. rosae over 72 hours. The experiment was conducted in a climate chamber under controlled conditions (25±1 °C, 60±5% relative humidity, and a 16:8 light-dark photoperiod). The results showed that Neem Azal-T/S led to mortality rates of 12.5%, 17.5%, 60%, and 77.5%, respectively, while S. nematodiphila resulted in a 78% mortality rate after 72 hours. In the control group, mortality was 0.75%, while mortality rates for the treatment groups were 1.25 (Neem_1), 1.75 (Neem_2), 6.00 (Neem_3), 7.00 (Neem_4), and 8.25 (S. nematodiphila). Statistical analyses showed significant differences between all treatment groups and the control. In conclusion, this study demonstrated that both Neem Azal-T/S and S. nematodiphila significantly increased mortality rates in M. rosae compared with the control. Additionally, this study is the first record of the presence of S. nematodiphila in Türkiye and the first information on its entomopathogenic effect on M. rosae in the worldwide, supporting the potential of biological methods in managing rose aphids and emphasizing the importance of biological control strategies in agricultural pest management.Öğe Van Gölü Kıyı Habitatlarında Notonecta viridis Delcourt, 1909 (Hemiptera: Notonectidae) ve Bazı Chironomidae (Diptera) Türlerinin Biyolojik Gösterge Değerleri(2018) Dilmen, Halil; Özgökçe, Mehmet SalihVan Gölü kıyı şeridinin habitatlarını tanımlamak için kıyı şeridi boyunca yaygınlıkla saptanan Notonecta viridis Delcourt, 1909 (Hemiptera: Notonectidae), Microchironomus deribae (Freeman, 1957), Halocladius fucicola (Edwards, 1926), Cricotopus spp. ve Chironomus sp. (Diptera: Chironomidae) türlerinin hesaplanan biyolojik gösterge değerleri kullanılmıştır.
