In recent years, the incidence of resistance in pests, diseases, weeds, etc. increases rapidly. It threatens traditional agriculture and is dangerous to global food security and sustainability. Based on that conclusion, this chapter has demonstrated the necessity and potential of modern approaches to resistance management, including integrated pest management (IPM), genetic engineering (GE), biocontrol, and precision agriculture. IPM comprises different strategies, such as biological control and cultural practices, to decrease the usage of chemical pesticides and resistance development. The concept of GE makes it possible to develop crops, i.e., hybrids with resistance traits to pests and diseases. It allows responding to them more efficiently and prevents or minimizes significant damage to the species and other organisms as well as the negative impact on the environment. Biocontrol on the natural basis of enemies or beneficial microbes is environmentally friendly and sustainable. Precision agriculture is enabled today by GPS, drones, sensors, and others and allows for better usage of resources, pest control, monitoring, and intervention introduction to use pesticides more rationally and avoid their resistance. The chapter also discusses problems and barriers to the use of modern approaches, such as cooperation with laws and regulations, public opinion, or the compatibility of new solutions with existing farming systems. At the same time, the chapter may serve as a good guide for researchers, agronomists, and farmers to apply modern approaches that can reduce resistance problems in modern agriculture and make it more sustainable and resilient. © 2026 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
