| dc.description.abstract | With the ever-increasing integration of Electric Vehicles (EVs) in LV feeders, the challenges posed by EVs have become more and more widespread because typical radially operated feeders are not originally designed to consider this phenomenon. Therefore, reconfigured LV feeders are essential for the effective operation of future low-voltage feeders. In this context, this paper investigates two alternatives to radial operations: ring and J configurations. Considering the common adverse effects, such as voltage drop, increased feeder current, and energy losses, it is crucial to identify the best configuration points for LV feeders to mitigate these effects. To this end, this paper investigates these alternative solutions using a brute-force method so as to ensure optimality. Furthermore, graph theory is employed for scalability purpose. In order to perform a fair comparison among the alternative solutions, a Monte-Carlo-based power flow analysis is conducted in a timely manner. Case studies demonstrate the effectiveness of the graph-based brute-force approach. Compared with radial operation, the best ring and J-type configurations reduce total energy losses by approximately 25% and 39%, respectively, and maximum feeder current by approximately 35% and 70%, respectively. These findings emphasize the potential of ring and J operations to mitigate EV impacts on LV feeders. © 2015 IEEE. | |
