Fatty acid content and nutritional composition of seeds of certain Triticale varieties
(Innovhub Ssi-Area Ssog, 2025) Ozdemir, Selim; Seydosoglu, Seyithan; Kokten, Kagan; Cil, Abdullah
Triticale cultivars can be grown for fodder as well as grain. Growing demand for food resources has led to an increased interest in triticale development. This cereal is receiving great attention as an alternative source of nutrients and health-protective components in the human diet. In this study, the lipid content and fatty acid composition of 7 triticale varieties were determined. The lipid content of the examined triticale varieties varied between 0.11 and 1.14%. The major unsaturated fatty acids found in the grain lipids of triticale varieties were oleic (17.16-22.74%), linoleic (53.67-57.84%) and linolenic (4.04-5.01%) acids. Levels of palmitoleic, arachidic, erucic, docosahexaenoic and nervonic acids were found to be lower than 1%. The crude ash (CA) and crude protein (CP) ratios in the grains of triticale varieties varied between 0.75-2.24% and 7.45-9.34%, respectively. The acid detergent fiber (ADF), neutral detergent fibre (NDF) and acid detergent lignin (ADL) ratios of the grains of triticale varieties varied between 7.91-9.04%, 25.34-29.45% and 1.06-2.96%, respectively. The dry matter digestibility (DMD) and dry matter intake (DMI) ratios and relative feed value (RFV) values of triticale grains varied between 81.86-82.74%, 4.08-4.74% and 260.74-302.54, respectively. The Presto, Umranhanim and Alperbey varieties have greater ADL and NDF properties; Aysehanim and Mehmetbey varieties had better ADF and CP ratios; the Tatlicak-97 variety recorded higher total digestible nutrients (TDN), DMD, digestible energy (DE) and metabolic energy (ME) values; the Tacettinbey variety had higher ash content, DMI and relative feed value (RFV).

Fatty Acids Contents & Nutritional Compositions of Grains of Different Barley Genotypes
(Innovhub Ssi-Area Ssog, 2025) Ozdemir, Selim; Seydosoglu, Seyithan; Kokten, Kagan; Cil, Abdullah; Turan, Nizamettin
Barley is an important cereal in the world regarding its utilisation and extensive production as a feed and food grain in many countries. But little information is available on barley oil in terms of its composition. The aim of this study was to describe the importance of barley seeds by extracting their oil and determine its composition regarding lipids along with evaluations on composition, nutrient content, feed value and quality parameters. The crude ash, crude protein, ADF, NDF and ADL ratios of the seeds of barley genotypes varied between 3.5-7.1%; 8.3-13.4%; 13.5-26.0%; 23.8-36.3% and 1.99-8.78%, respectively. The DMD ratios, DMI ratios, RFV values, TDN ratios, DE and ME values of genotypes varied between 68.7-78.4%; 3.30-5.05%; 175.9-304.0%; 62.9-72.3%; 3.21-3.63 MJ/kg and 9.67-11.33 Mcal/kg, respectively. The total lipid content of the examined genotypes varied between 1.7 and 3.9%. Several fatty acids were detected; Palmitic, stearic and arachidic acids from saturated fatty acids were detected in the seeds of all barley genotypes examined in the study. The seed lipids of some barley genotypes contain palmitic (16.80-25.56%) and stearic (1.33-3.70%) acids as the major component of fatty acids, among the saturated acids, with small amounts of arachidic (0.24-0.54%) and behenic (0.06-0.90%) acids. The major unsaturated fatty acids found in the seed lipids were oleic (15.30-33.78%), linoleic (41.92-55.28%) and linolenic (2.84-5.43%) acids. Palmitoleic, erucic, docosahexaenoic and nervonic acids were shown to be lower than 1%. Eicosenoic and erucic acids were detected in all barley genotypes. Barley seeds may be used as a source of edible oil due to the presence of several unsaturated and essential fatty acids.

GENETIC VARIABILITY FOR SEED NUTRITIONAL COMPOSITION IN PEARL MILLET GENOTYPES ANALYZED BY BIPLOT METHOD
(Univ Quindio, 2023) Seydosoglu, Seyithan; Kokten, Kagan; Cil, Abdullah; Turan, Nizamettin
This study evaluated the chemical composition of pearl millet seeds belonging to different genotypes by biplot analysis. Seeds of 26 different pearl millet populations obtained from ICRISAT (International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics) within the scope of TuBITAK 219O103 run by Sirnak University were used. The seeds were ground and analyzed for their chemical composition, i.e., acid detergent fiber (ADF), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), crude protein (CP), digestible dry matter (DDM) and dry matter intake (DMI) rate. The results revealed that crude protein ratio varied between 11.74-19.24%, whereas ADF ratio differed between 3.44-11.43%. Similarly, NDF ratio varied between 10.23-23.47%, while DDM ratio ranged between 79.98-86.21%. Likewise, DMI ratio differed between 5.11-11.72%. Scatter plot obtained after biplot analysis indicated three different groups based on the analyzed traits. The first group contained DDM and DMI, whereas the second group consisted of ADF and NDF. The protein ratio was in the third group. It was determined that ADF-NDF and DMI-DDM properties were negatively correlated with each other. According to biplot, genotypes 'A5-13', 'A13-6' and 'B1-7' were prominent for ADF-NDF, DMI-DDM, and protein ratio, respectively. Therefore, these genotypes can be used in future studies to induce the desired traits.

IDENTIFICATION OF DROUGHT RESISTANT SUNFLOWER GENOTYPES (HELIANTHUS ANNUUS L.)
(Parlar Scientific Publications (P S P), 2017) Ucak, Ali Beyhan; Gencoglan, Cafer; Cil, Abdullah; Inal, Behcet
The present study was conducted under water stress (WS) and stress-free (SF) conditions in randomized blocks design with 3 replications in 2012 and 2013 to determine drought resistance of normal-oleic (Sanbro and Tunca), medium-oleic (Saray and 10TR054) and high-oleic (P64H34 and Oleko) sunflower genotypes. In stress-free treatments, drip irrigations were performed as to bring the soil moisture level to field capacity when 50% of available moisture in effective root depth was depleted. A total of four irrigations were performed in WS treatments, but irrigations were not performed in SF treatments (except for the initial survival water). The differences between the genotypes with regard to investigated parameters were found to be significant (p<0.01). In the first year of experiments, the greatest yields in WS treatments were obtained from Saray and Tunca genotypes (3147-3109 kg ha(-1)) with the lowest crop water index (CWSI=0.29-0.31) and the greatest chlorophyll content (CC=46.6-47.7); the lowest yield (2370 kg hat) was obtained from Sanbro genotype with the greatest CWSI (0.70) and the lowest chlorophyll content (38.8). In SF treatments, the greatest yields (38183646 kgha(-1)) were observed in Tunca and Saray with the lowest CWSI (0.20-0.26) and the greatest CC (50.86 - 50.16); the lowest yield (3163 kgha(-1)) was seen in P64H34 with high CWSI (0.42) and low CC (41.88). In the second year of experiments, the greatest yields (3480-3394 kgha(-1)) in WS treatments were obtained from Tunca and Saray with the greatest CC (46.83 - 51.25) and the lowest CWSI (0.24-0.27); the lowest yield (2793 kgha(-1)) was obtained from P64H34 with the lowest CC (41.28) and high CWSI (0.53). In SF treatments, the greatest yields (4348-4217 kgha(-1)) were observed in Tunca and Saray with the lowest CWSI (0.12-0.17) and the greatest CC (51.66-45.65); the lowest yield (3848 kgha(-1)) was observed in Oleko with the greatest CWSI (0.46) and the lowest CC (40.13). Current findings revealed that the genotypes Tunca and Saray were prominent in both WS and SF conditions with regard to yield, CWSI and CC and they were able to use irrigation water optimally and identified as drought-tolerant genotypes. It was concluded that these genotypes could also be used in further drought-resistance studies. The genotypes Sanbro and 10TR054 with the lowest yield in WS treatments were identified as sensitive genotypes.
